USA Roadtrip

Joachim udlevede sin bildrøm og lejede den vildeste, mest miljøuvenlige vogn, Camaro SS og påtog dermed jobbet som chauffør på de trafikerede amerikanske 7-sporede motorveje.

Jeg holdt på hat og briller det meste af tiden og krydsede fingre for, at vi kom helskinnet tilbage. Roadtrip i USA er ikke for sarte sjæle. Men jeg ville gerne opleve kyststrækningen fra San Francisco til LA, Route 66 til Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Death Valley, Yosemite National Park og Napa Valley. Og så måtte jeg pænt spænde selen og sætte mig godt til rette i Camaroen.

Vi mindes ofte vores roadtrip, særligt turen på Route 66 og det fantastiske landskab og den flotte himmel.

Las Vegas

Det er svært at undgå Las Vegas, der skyder op i ørkenområdet i delstaten Nevada. Vi havde ikke store forventninger til byen, men vi blev alligevel fascineret, og jeg blev endda overtalt til at tage med på kasino, hvor Joachim vandt 100 $. Det var den sjoveste bytur og nok den eneste gang, vi kom hjem med flere penge, end vi havde med.

Vi boede på hotellet The Cosmopolitan, hvor vi blev opgraderet til en luksus suite med japansk hot tub, privat terrasse med udsigt over den berømte Bellagio Fontaine, der startede hver time medfulgt af Witney Houstons udgave af USA’s nationalmelodi “The Star-Spangled Banner”. Udgaven er fra 1991, hvor Witney Houston sang nationalmelodien til Super Bowl. Hør en bid her.

Death Valley

Den højeste temperatur, der er målt på jorden, er målt i dalen Death Valley i Californien.

Vi købte rigeligt med vand, inden vi kørte ind, hvis motoren skulle gå i stå. De få gange, vi stod ud af bilen fik vi hårtørre-varm luft blæst lige i hovederne. Derfor fandt jeg hurtigt ud af, at jeg kunne tage iphone-billeder ud af soltaget.

Yosemite National Park

Besøget i Yosemite National Park er den mest minderige oplevelse i Joachim og mit liv. Det lyder næsten helt klichéagtigt. Men hvad jeg ikke vidste, da jeg gik uvidende rundt i bjergene på udkig efter vandfald, var at Joachim ville fri til mig.

Han havde pakket en rygsæt med kold (!) champagne, to glas og vigtigst af alt en guldring. Vi kørte op til Glacies Point, der ligger på toppen af et bjerg med udsigt over Yosemite Valley.

Under solnedgangen friede han til mig og jeg sagde selvfølgelig ja. Det var den smukkeste aften og det kom fuldstændigt bag på mig. Jeg tudede af lykke, da det endelig gik op for mig, hvad der lige var sket. Et frieri. På toppen af et bjerg i USA. I solnedgang. Det var et af de mest romantiske øjeblikke i mit liv.

Napa Valley

Med sommerfugle i maven kørte vi morgenen efter frieriet til vinlandet Napa Valley nord for San Francisco i Californien. Vi besøgte bl.a. Chandon, der laver mousserende vine og er den ene halvdel i det franske champagnebrand Möet & Chandon. Derudover købte vi luksusvin i en meget hip wineshop.

San Francisco

De sidste 5 dage af ferien brugte vi i San Francisco, der var kold som en dansk efterårsdag. Vi havde booket et hotel med pool, men der var desværre ikke en eneste badedag. Til gengæld spiste vi lækker mad og kørte selvfølgelig ud til must-see attraktionen over dem alle: Golden Gate Bridge.

Jeg er vild med San Francisco og de fineste, pastelfarvede huse. Hvis vi en dag skulle flytte til USA, så ville vi helt sikkert bosætte os i San Francisco.

Den sidste aften fyrede vi den af med en 7-retters tasting menu med tilhørende wine pairing på den hippe Michelinrestaurant Sons & Daugthers.
